RESPONSE TO THE DRAFT LEICESTER CITY LOCAL PLAN NOV 2020 ( MEMBERS AREA )
The original proposed Whetstone Pastures scheme was being planned on 1100 acres of Green Land by Blaby DC who are actively supporting the building of 3,500 New Homes and 4 million square feet of Warehousing in what is supposed to be a “Garden Village”.
This proposal could now be potentially increased up to 6000 homes!

Plans on developing a new motorway junction ( 20A ) on the M1 motorway would coincide with the “Whetstone Pastures” development  which  will dramatically affect the 1,000-year-old Conservation Village of Willoughby Waterleys and surrounding villages and areas. A prospectus of the proposal is linked below.

Realistically it will be no more than a huge housing estate, dumped in the open countryside with huge “sheds” dominating the views for miles.

The project is being promoted by local landowners and supported by development partner Tritax Symmetry. Further information can be found here.

The following is the formal submission by WWRA to the first Vision consultation held by Tritax Symmetry in to the possible Garden Village at Whetstone Pastures.

WWRA does not accept the planning case has been proven but cautions that a review of the Blaby District has highlighted the possibility of this huge development on 1100 acres of green field agricultural land.

WILLOUGHBY WATERLEYS RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION
WWRA
The Residents of Willoughby Waterleys are not militants, but they are very concerned that planning policy is not being applied fairly and that Alternative options are not being sufficiently investigated by all of the Leicestershire Councils. They have therefore formed a Residents Association and intend to challenge the implementation of the ill thought through Strategic Growth Plan which is behind the Garden Village proposal.
Informed by professional planning advice, WWRA continues to work with various bodies and groups including The Campaign for Rural England (CPRE) and seeking the support of affected communities by the proposals.
